Veteran’s Disability

If you are a veteran of the Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy or National Guard and are disabled as a result of an injury you may be able to receive Social Security Disability Benefits. The Houston Social Security representatives can gather information about the date you were disabled or injured, the type of injury you have suffered and where the injury occurred. They can gather all other relevant information and help you complete a Social Security Disability application. Supplemental Security Income Overview:

Are you disabled and unable to work? Do you lack the history and “work credits” to qualify for the Social Security Disability Insurance program? You may be able to qualify for Supplemental Security Income benefits.

Supplemental Security Income benefits are for children or adults who are disabled, or who are over the age of 65, or blind. In order to qualify for the Supplemental Security Income program you must be determined to be disabled and have limited income and resources. Disabled is defined as having a physical or mental limitation which is so severe you are not be able to engage in substantial gainful activity. The disability must last for at least 12 months or result in death. The Social Security Disability Determination Services Office will review your application to see if you meet this criterion.

Social Security Disability for Children in Houston, Texas

A disabled or non-disabled child may receive Social Security Disability payments if their parents are retired, disabled, or receiving disability payments currently under the Social Security Disability Insurance program. If the child is disabled and has a limited income they may still qualify for the Supplemental Security Income program even if their parents are not receiving SSDI payments. A child might also qualify for payments if they are over the age of 18 if their income is still limited and they continue to be considered disabled.

To determine the disability of a child the Disability Determination Services Office (DDS) will evaluate if the child has a severe and limiting mental or physical disability. It must be expected to last 12 months or result in death.
